Heinz Refuge and FOHR offer a rich varity of activities through which visitors can enjoy the Refuge. From annual celebrations to weekly bird walks with experienced leaders, everyone is sure to find a fun and engaging way to experience the natural world.

    Join PA Young Birders in the 4th annual WINTER BIRD COUNT FOR KIDS at Heinz Refuge, on Saturday, January 4, 2014, starting at 8:00 AM. Kids will be inspired to discover, observe, and conserve, in this popular event featuring a program presentation, field birding, citizen-science counting & observation, eBird, and a tally rally with hot pizza and beverages! Expert leaders will guide kids in exploring different Refuge habitats to observe and count bird species, including hawks, ducks, kinglets, woodpeckers, sparrows, herons and more! All skill levels welcome, from beginner to advanced young birders. Dress for cold weather. Be prepared to be outside approximately 2-3 hours, walking about 1-2 miles. Bring binoculars or borrow from Refuge Visitors Center front desk. Event is appropriate for children ages 10+. Event is FREE.
